Pizeera had moved to the waters edge and had his head bent taking a drink, when he heard the liards voice come across from the other side of the river.
Raising his head just in time to see her retreating back through some bushes, he just stared trying to figrue out what she was talking about.
"Well, I wonder what she has found over there, must smell nice or she wouldn't be bothering to bring it back, whatever it is."
Moving back, Pizeera made his way to where he could see the male dabbing water on Memkria's nose while she was still whimpering.
"Odd. Where did they all go?"
"well I'm here, and it looks like we might be having company, looks like Ayesha has found a new toy and bringing it back to show us, this should be interesting."

Thomas stood there finally on his feet rocking a little getting his balance, his toes clenched and dug into the soft dirt till at last he was still.
Not sure what to do as he saw the female leave him and start growling, he followed her quietly until the bushes were pushed back and she was once again standing in front of him.
Tilting his head to one side, his eyebrows raised slightly, asking her in silence what it was he was to do. He wanted to stay with the liard for now, it was the first time he could remember being this close to another living thing that didn't want to rip him apart for nourishment, yet he was scared that it was all a trap.

Once Ayesha had shouted out to Pizeera, she turned and pushed back through the bushes only to almost stumble over the ... well she thought it was a human.. she wasn't really sure, but stopped herself in time before he hit the ground once again.
Staring at him she saw his face change, he was wanting to know something , she just wasn't sure what, not to worry, she'd just push him along till she came to where she safely crossed the river and then hopefully he would follow and she could show him off to the others, maybe the fox would loose her grumpyness for a little bit and like what she, Ayesha had found.

"well I'm here, and it looks like we might be having company, looks like Ayesha has found a new toy and bringing it back to show us, this should be interesting."
Night Flame lifted an eyebrow slightly at the conversation between Phrixus and Pizeera when she reached the group. Ayesha had found something? She shook her head slightly, then headed to Phrixus and Memkrias. She supposed they would soon find out what it was when the liard would return.
The dark lioness placed the herbs on the ground when she had reached Phrixus and Memkrias.
"How is the wound, Memkrias?" she asked quietly as she carefully lowered herself on the ground, making sure not to drop the fox from her back as she did so. The small creature seemed so peaceful and comfortable where she was, so she thought there would be no harm in letting her rest some more.

Memkrias looked up as Night flame spoke and considered the question a little before she replied "I guess its not as bad as it felt initially". She felt a little sheepish now, perhaps she had over reacted a little to how bad the wound was. But it had hurt with the fox's teeth in her and there had been blood... could she really be blamed for her reaction?

As Ayesha moved in closer, her nose started to twitch a little, new scents were filling up her nostrils, she knew this trip would bring exciting things, she just didn't think it would be as great as what she had found.
Nudging him with her head, she pushed him in front of her. Following closely she could see as his cloak moved he had some sort of weapon clenched in his hand, if he had of wanted to hurt her Ayesha thought he would have done so by now.
On they went till at last she saw where the earth was trampled and some plants had been pulled out of the ground... yes this was the spot where she had reached out with the branches and pulled herself up on the bank after crossing.
Not sure how to convey to this one at her side that she wanted him to cross the river with her, Ayesha looked at him, then the river and once again to him, and then carefully moved down the bank sliding a little, until the water was lapping over her front paws. Again she stopped and inclined her head at him and then carried on into the water. Paddling hard her four paws moved in unison, moving her away into the river, while she hoped that he had understood what she wanted of him, but she wouldn't be able to see until she had made it to the other side.
Ayesha could feel the water pushing and pulling at her body as she moved, but she was only carried off course a little, before her front feet kicked into some water logged branches that were lying on the bottom of the river, helping her gain her balance. Digging in she lurched forward for the bank, clung on and dragged herself up back to where she had begun.
Turning quickly now, Ayesha thought that he would be right behind her, but she blinked rapidly when all she saw was him standing still on the other side. Nodding her head at him a few times, the liard sat down on her rump and just kept staring at him, she wasn't about to walk away and leave him behind, hopefully he would make a move.

Pizeera got tired of standing there just waiting around, Memkria was being looked after, the fox was asleep now she had had a nibble on the lioness and he was bored.
Making up his mind, he moved away from the others and started walking along the track that he had last seen the liard leave on, moving around things that lay all over the ground.
Passing some flowers that were spread over the ground, he grinned knowing he was heading in the right direction and that Ayesha hadn't wandered somewhere else, it was like she was leaving a trail for anyone to follow.
Coming around a bend, Pizeera pushed through some overhanging branches and stopped when he saw her sitting on her rump staring across the river at something, interested now he quietly stepped closer till he was behind her.

It seemed Memkrias was fine now, and didn't need his help any longer, so he backed away from the water and sat down by a tree. He saw that Night Flame and Isha were back, but there was still no sign of Ayesha.
As phrixus' eyes moved over to Night Flame, he remembered the question he had wanted to ask her. He found it a bit odd that she was the only one of her kind here, especially after she said that there had been others here previously.
"So, Night Flame," He started, "You said before that there used to be others here with you. Where did they all go, and why did you stay?"

"I guess its not as bad as it felt initially."
Night Flame nodded. "That is good."
She then proceeded to wash the plants she had collected in the water, making sure all dirt clinging on them was gone. She then settled them on the grass and picked a few of the leaves before turning her attention back to Memkrias.
"Now", she said, handing the leaves over to the lioness. "Crush these leaves and put them on the wound for a moment. It stings slightly at first, but it stops infections from spreading. When it doesn't sting any more you can take them off."
The lioness then turned to pick Isha from her back, placing the fennec in front of her between her front feet. The fox was fast asleep and didn't wake up while being touched. Night Flame gently moved the fennec's hair away from her face, examining the small cut she had.
"So, Night Flame. You said before that there used to be others here with you. Where did they all go, and why did you stay?"
The lioness glanced at Phrixus before turning her attention back at the fox. The cut was clean and didn't seem to need washing.
"I mentioned earlier that they left", she said quietly while crushing a few of the leaves on the fox's forehead.
"I... suppose that is not exactly an accurate way to say it. A better way to put it is to say that they 'disappeared'."
She made sure that the fox was comfortable before she lifted her teal gaze to Phrixus.
"It was only a few members of our pride at first. Our pride was large, so we did not notice it at first. We used to go out to the open grasslands to hunt, and sometimes young ones decided that 'going to hunt' was the best excuse to leave the pride for exploring. But when the older ones began to vanish..."
She shook her head, and then snorted. "Our pride grew smaller, and our elders chanted that the lands were cursed. There were many of us that did not believe them, but most chose to follow the elders when they left. I..."
She cringed. "I was in no condition to travel, so I remained."

Memkrias did as Night Flame had instructed, having crushed them up and put them on her nose. She held them down with her paws while her eyes watered, it stung no doubt about that. She continued holding like that after all, it was't exactly going away instantly, while the other two chattered together.

Sitting there on her rump concentrating on the boy, Ayesha didn't hear Pizeera move up behind her until he spoke making her jump slightly.
"Pizeera, for goodness sake, just sit down and shut up will you, I don't want him scared off, I'm sure he was just about to get in the water and come across, and now he's just standing there like a statue."
Flicking her tongue at the lion, Ayesha rose to her paws, talking to Pizeera from corner of her mouth.
"just stay where you are and don't move/growl/blink nothing..you got it ?"
Moving forward till her front paws were once again positioned in the water, Ayesha began to talk to him and then chatised herself.
''how stupid am I, as if he can understand anything I say, just have to do it all in gestures and hope he has a brain in his head".
Ayesha let out a small growl to get his attention and then bought up a paw motioning for him to start forward, only thing was, she wasn't sure if he could swim as good as herself, she'd just stand there and watch and if he didn't make it, well... she would have to find herself another 'toy'.

Thomas stood there watching the female as she made it across the river and clamboured up the bank. Chewing on his bottom lip, he was still a bit undecided what to do. He was tired of being alone, tired of fighting to survive all the time, he just wanted to be with others, if he was going to die, well so be it.
Sliding one foot along the ground forward till it touched the water, he then placed the knife he had made between his teeth and clamped down on it hard, so as to not loose it as he crossed. Looking back up as he heard her growl, his eyes widened as he saw a lion lying there beside her, pausing he stared but the male didn't move just returned his look.
' well I guess it's time to see what they have planned for me '.
Walking forward, he slid down the bank on his buttocks pulling the cloak tighter around him and stretched his arms out and kicked as hard as he could, surging forward, leaving behind where he had sheltered from prey and storms.

Phrixus listened as Night Flame described what happened, and her story seemed oddly familiar. He had heard similar things about members from prides disappearing.
"I've heard about some disappearances before. Did anyone from your pride say how it was happening by any chance? Maybe it's the same thing as the other prides."

Pizeera lay down on the ground, resting his head on his paws and watched the human slowly take his steps into the water to come across to Ayesha.
"well this should be interesting to see, wonder whose going to take the first bite, Phrixus or NightFlame or the snarly fox."
About to make another comment to the liard about what she wanted this boy for, Pizeera shut his mouth quick, he was sure Ayesha would smack it for him. Instead he rose and turned back to where he came from until he found the others.
"You all better be ready for this, Ayesha's bringing back a human boy from the other side of the river, and he's not for dinner..ok ! "

Night Flame's tail twitched, betraying her rising nervousness at Phrixus' question. Otherwise she remained as calm as ever.
"None came back", she said simply. "There were no witnesses when our elders decided it was time to go. None of them returned either, so whether or not they... disappeared like the rest, or managed to flee is something I am not aware of."
"You all better be ready for this, Ayesha's bringing back a human boy from the other side of the river, and he's not for dinner..ok !"
The dark lioness turned to gaze at Pizeera with narrowed eyes.
"She is doing what?" she asked with a lowered voice, apparently not liking what she had heard.

Phrixus' eyes widened slightly at what he heard. He had always been told to be cautious and to look out for humans, and had heard all kinds of stories about them. He had never seen one up close before though, and he wasn't sure that bringing it here was safe.
"I don't think bringing him here is a good idea."

Forcing his teeth to bite down harder on his only weapon, Thomas strained against the surge of the water, fighting to get to the other side. Shaking his head to get water from his eyes, he glanced at the river bank, he was getting closer to the liard it wouldn't be long now and then he would know if it was all a trap or he wouldn't be lone any more
Finally his feet hit the slimey dirt on the base of the river bed but he pulled himself in closer, trying to get his balance. At last, he grabbed hold of weeds dangling over the water and lurched foward his stomach and chest landing on the damp ground right in front of the feline.
Letting his dagger drop from his mouth to the ground, Thomas spat out the water that had seeped in as well, pulled his cape off his back and started to wring out the excess water and finally faced Ayesha.
"we made it ."

Ayesha sat there waiting and waiting, her paws started to tap slowly as she watched him move across the water. He was swept a little away, but gradually made his way back keeping her in his sights, till at last he was up on land in front of her.
Smiling at him Ayesha rose to her feet and started to move in the direction where she knew the others would be waiting, what an amazing surprise she would have for them all, she couldn't wait to see their faces.

Pizeera stood there watching the expressions on their faces, it didn't look like they were very happy about it, he didn't care, if the boy didn't behave he would be a snack for them all, but he wondered what Ayesha wanted him for.
" Looks like you are all going to have to leave him alone, or deal with the liard. Who knows what she has planned, but here she comes by the sounds. Just remember no eating him ---yet."

Memkrias was stood over by the edge of the pool making faces in the water as she tested out her face. It was feeling better now and that was making her feel better mood wise.
She looked up as she heard Pizeera talking about something and spotted there some sort of gangly creature, was it a monkey? What happened to most its fur she wondered. Then she smiled and walked over to it.
She fluttered her eye lashes a little in a childish flirt and spoke up to the hairless monkey "Hi, I'm Memkrias - the uber cute one of the group... whats your name?". Being the youngest of the group.. she was't as worldly as the others and expected him to reply not knowing what he was.

Thomas stood there water dripping from his hair, running down his shoulders watching as Ayesha didn't reply but smiled at him, turned her back and started to walk away.
Bending down, he picked up his weapon then threw his cloak back over him, and carefully followed the liard. Pushing his way around an overhanging bush he came to a sudden stop surprised when a lioness blocked his way, it looked like she was trying to talk to him, noises were coming from her mouth.
Gripping his knife, Thomas held himself still, not sure what to do, he wouldn't raise it startling her but at the same time he was prepared in case she lept at him. Licking his lips he kept eye contact and gave a small growl trying to imitate the noises he had heard when watching other lions together, hoping he was doing it correct.

Night Flame's frown deepened slightly when Ayesha and the human came to view. Her gaze was locked on the human when Memkrias went to speak with him, and when the human attempted to reply with a growl, the dark lioness sighed and turned to stare at the water.
"Memkrias, the human does not understand you."
She glanced down at the fennec, who still seemed to be fast asleep, and carefully peeled off the herbs she had placed on the fox's wound. Isha wrinkled her nose in her sleep before she curled up more comfortably against Night Flame's leg.

Phrixus saw Ayesha show up with the human, which made him a little annoyed and uncomfortable. Didn't she know what these humans do? Had she never heard the stories? He made his way over to her, trying to ignore the fur-less beast.
"We need to get rid of that thing," he said, "It's not safe to have him with us."
