Sera cringed.
"I was forced to leave."
She turned her head so that she could look at Basilisk.
"You know", she said. "Me and Meri here have one thing in common. Neither of us is fond of lions."
She sighed.
"No offence there, Basilisk, you're a nice guy... You lions just sometimes are complete jerks. I wanted nothing to do with the local pride, but their 'awesome' leader wanted me to leave because he thought I looked too much like the guy he overthrew to become a king. If I didn't leave, he would've had my head on a plate - quite literally."
She paused.
"Not only that, but after I left and stumbled upon lions I had never seen before, they sneered at me, acting high and mighty and telling that a 'worthless half-breed' was not welcome."

Basilisk's head perked up a bit when he heard that. He hadn't wronged them at all, so he didn't like that she just assumed all lions were "bad".

After a few moments of silence and a couple taps of his paw, Basilisk spoke again.
"So why did you and your mom separate? Why didn't she go with you?"

"You could just as well ask why would the lions I met act like I was the most disgraceful thing to have ever walked on earth. Put yourself in my paws for a moment and imagine being treated like that - or worse - all the time. Would you begin to think that way?"
She grinned faintly.
"But, as said, you're ok. I'm altering my view all the time."
"So why did you and your mom separate? Why didn't she go with you?"
"Ah..."
She glanced at Jabari before she answered.
"She's a cheetah, so... Who knows? She had a good life where she lived, plenty of food to hunt, and the lions let her be."

Jabari lay there pretending he was asleep, all the while listening to what Basilisk and the cheelion were talking about, seems that most of them gathered here had the same prejudice against them , not being accepted as being 'normal'.
Slowly the cheetah turned his head and stared at Meri wondering what had happened to her, she wasn't a half breed, but she had been attacked viciously by the looks, and by something that had also left her emotionally and mentally scarred.
His gaze then fell on the cub, again thinking about how it had been abandoned, what had happened to it's mother, then onto the snake curled up as though she had been living in the cave for ages.
' what an assortment we have here now'
" You finished with your interogation Basilisk ? maybe we can all get some sleep...yes ! "

Maji was laying there sleeping when suddenly he twitched in his sleep and his head banged on the rock. He awoke with a start, dozey eyed and confused to what was happening and why his head hurt. He gave a little yelp as he felt his head with his paw, he had no idea what had just happened.

Sera laughed quietly.
"You lions live in groups", she said. "It might seem odd to you that my mother simply left me like that. It is different for cheetahs'. Their mothers grow their offspring alone, and when the children are old enough they leave. I believe it was my mother's wish that I find my own place, very much like she had found hers."

The cheelion's eyes widened and she turned to stare at Jabari with surprise.
"Well sorry", she said with slight hurt in her tone.
However, whether or not she would have had other things to say was unclear when Maji suddenly yelped. Sera blinked, turning her gaze from Jabari to the cub before quickly turning her head away and making sure she wasn't looking at anyone. It seemed that the cub had somehow managed hurt his head. She knew that he probably needed some comforting, but she was no mother, and caring for Maji would have been too awkward for her.

"Interrogation? They're honest questions... I'm curious. You can sleep if you wish, but I'll stop talking when I'm good and ready. Or when Sera refuses to answer more questions."
He then turned his attention back to Sera
"So, how long have you been without your mother? Where else have you been on your own besides here?"

Jabari looked first at Basilisk then his head turned and his eyes rested on Sera. Blinking slightly he pushed himself to his feet, and walked past them out into the night, slightly away from the entrance to the cave.
Standing still he breathed in the clean crisp air, and then he tilted his head staring upwards, catching a few stars that had come out from clouds. His nose twitched as he caught Karensha's scent, it seemed she wasn't that far away, but still no sign of the other lion, Sefu.
He was tempted to follow the snow leopard, but felt it his duty to stay here and guard the small lioness and the cub, morning would be here soon enough and she would turn back up to look after Maji...well he hoped so, he wasn't sure who would care for him otherwise.

Sera thought for a moment, watching how Jabari left the cave.
"I'm not sure really", she replied. "Weeks, months... It's all blurred together. I know I wasn't very good at hunting when I began travelling, but I can somewhat manage on my own right now."
She chuckled, apparently liking the current subject.
"Hunting is fun. It's probably a bit childish thing to do, but I used to run after prey just to feel the thrill of the chase. I would never really catch anything unless I really was hungry. Chasing was just... the only way to pass time, aside from endless walking that is."

Sefu watched as Karensha walked away and didn't bother to follow her. He just continued to look at sky wondering what the rest of the group was doing now. Thoughts of the others irratated it seemed since most of them just annoyed him.The only ones that didn't bother him to much is Karensha and the lioness who is always quiet.
His eyes started to get heavy as he continued thinking about other things. After awhile, Sefu fell asleep hoping that nothing will bother him for awhile so he can get some sleep.

Basilisk looked around the cave, and it seemed most in there were getting tired or had already fallen asleep. He figured he might as well too, as he didn't really have anything else to say.
"One more question," he said finally, "Have you decided on how long you want to stay here?"

"Hm, not really", Sera answered, giving Basilisk a fain smile.
"As long as I'm welcome, I suppose. That's what I usually do."
She yawned then. It seemed that today's events were finally getting the better of her. She took one more general look around the cave and its occupants before taking a slightly more comfortable position on the cave floor. She yawned again, then settled her head down her paws as she closed her eyes.
"G'night, Basilisk."

He looked towards the cave entrance and saw the Jabari was still there.
"we're done talking now if you still want to sleep."

Jabari inclined his head a little back towards the cave when he heard Basilisks voice, staring at him for a moment, and then turning his head away looking back towards where he knew the waterhole was, he just lay there his eyes drifting closed a little.

Karensha lay on her side as the warmth of the morning rays fell on her body, stretching herself out she yawned and lifted her head looking around to see where she was once more and familiarising herself with the spot.
Hearing a splash of water, she rolled and pulled herself to her feet and looked cautiously out to where other animals were now drinking and refreshing themselves. Over in the distance she could see only a few dark shapes, squinting her eyes further she tried to see what they were, it could have been lions or even water buffalo, her view wasn't clear enough.
Sniffing the air for scents, all that filled her nostrils were the crocodiles that were lying out further on a stretch of swamp, some were eyeing her back it seemed.
Glancing back at the shapes, she then turned and moved back the way she had come, heading towards the cave and Maji, was time to find some food for him hopefully left over from Basilisks kill and a wash, she was sure that's what you did for little ones.
As she walked on slowly, her ears twitched and a muscle in her neck gave a tremor, she felt like someone or something was watching. Looking back over her shoulder Karensha's eyes scaned the immediate area , nothing seemed out of the ordinary, maybe she was just imagining things after seeing others around when she woke.
Pushing through more foliage, she saw the cheetah sleeping outside the cave entrance, but no sign of the others, stopping herself she wondered whether to just go inside the cave, or lay here and wait for them one by one to arise and come out.
With her decision made she moved in closer towards Jabari, wondering if she could surprise him.Slowing her self down almost stalking, she was nearing him a small grin on her face, her eyes scanning him from head to tail trying to think of the best place to 'attack'. She heard nothing from the cave, so presumed them all to be still sleeping and moved in for 'the kill'.

Sera's ears twitched when she heard movement from outside the cave. Her eyes opened instantly and her gaze fixed on the entrance. She had been awake for a while now, but instead of getting up she had decided to remain.
And now, something was moving out there. The cheelion quickly glanced at the others inside the cave, but she didn't notice that the others would have been awakened by what ever it was out there. The snake wasn't there any more, but Sera had known this for a while now. Kabechet had left the cave when the sun had gotten high, and she assumed the cobra was now gathering warmth in the sunlight.
She glanced at Meri, and noticed that the lioness was still sleeping peacefully. Meri had moved at some point during the night and was half leaning on Sera, so the cheelion decided it would be better that she stayed there instead of moving and risking waking her up. She would move only if the cause of the noise would come inside the cave.

When Basilisk woke he saw that Sera's ears were twitching and her attention was focused on something outside the cave. He was curious, and he was going out to the water anyway so he stood up and walked towards the cave entrance.
Once he got out he saw that Jabari was still asleep but Karensha was nearby as well, looking as if she was ready to pounce on the cheetah.
"Well good morning." He said to her as he continued on his way to the water hole.

Lifting a paw ready to 'jump' on the cheetah, Karensha had blocked out everything around her and when she heard Basilisks voice speak it made her jump and stumble.
"Well good morning."
Righting herself quickly, she kept her voice low
"damn, do you always sneak up on people?"
Turning her head, she found that he had kept on walking and possibly didn't hear her reply. Seeing Jabari start to move, karensha quickly shifted away from the cheetah and moved to stand in front of the cave entrance.
Needing to get Maji and find him some food, karensha hesitated at first, seeing Sera laying there with Meri resting against her. Giving her a brief smile, she moved past quietly and picked up the cub with her mouth and then backed out of the cave, heading to where she saw some remnants of meat left over from the night before.
Lowering herself to the ground, Karensha started to nuzzle the cub back and forth on his head while talking to him, trying to wake him up properly before she could get some meat and chew it up for him.
