"Me.. what the hell am I doing...don't you mean what the hell are you doing sneaking around hiding in bushes while right behind you there's an unexplained very dead cub...who just happens to look like he could be an identical twin of Maji's ??"
"No, I mean what the hell are you doing attacking me? I don't believe I did anything to deserve that."
Basilisk looked back at his healing wound he got from Karnesha.
"Though, attacking me seems to be the popular thing to do."
He looked around for the cub that Jabari was talking about. Once he spotted it, he looked back Jabari.
"Maji is with Karnesha, so it can't be him, and if he's related to Maji at all... well then I guess we can happily reunite them."

"No, I mean what the hell are you doing attacking me? I don't believe I did anything to deserve that."
"I apologise Basilisk, it was just an instictive move on my behalf after seeing this cub mauled and then the bushes started shaking I put 1+1 together and got 11, my bad."
Jabari followed Basilisks gaze, again looking at the remains. " I think we might have a problem, we can't let Maji see this and yet I'd like to know how it came to be there, especially as it looks to me, someone/something has tried to hide it from view."
Moving away Jabari moved back over to where he could see the footprints, leaning down smelling the indent, his head tilted to one side when he puzzled over Basilisks words.
"Maji is with Karnesha, so it can't be him, and if he's related to Maji at all... well then I guess we can happily reunite them."
"What do you mean we can reunite them, there's no way I'd be letting the cub see this ...this mess."

" Well it looks like you two don't want to concede that the other could be better than yourself, which is fine of course, I really thought you would finally like to settle that matter of a supposid stolen meal.... but of course it's nice to see you have made up and like being around each other."
Sera rolled her eyes at Karensha's comment. The leopard was such an annoying creature. She might act civil around Sefu right now, but she certainly had not forgiven him that he had stolen the food from right under her nose.
No... She would pay it back to the lion, but not right now.
"Kabetchet... I hope we won't be getting any visitors today ?"
Kabechet flicked her tongue out and turned her unblinking eyes at Karensha. "I am no fortune teller, Karenssha", she stated simply. "Whether or not there will be vissitorss iss beyond me."
"-- don't you mean what the hell are you doing sneaking around hiding in bushes while right behind you there's an unexplained very dead cub --""
Meri froze, her wide-eyed gaze locked on Jabari. She barely heard what else was said after the cheetah had mentioned a dead cub. All the curiosity and joy she had had on her face a moment ago were now drained aware as a horrified expression took their place.
"-- well then I guess we can happily reunite them." "What do you mean we can reunite them, there's no way I'd be letting the cub see this ...this mess."
The lioness blinked her eyes, realizing only then that Jabari had moved. She had a puzzled look on her face for a moment, until she realized just what it was that was laying at the cheetah's feet.
Her ears flattened as she slowly began to back away. She hadn't wanted to see that cub, but now that she had she couldn't forget how it looked like. She whimpered and then dashed, running as fast as she could towards the cave where they had spent their previous night.

Sefu just stayed relax as it seemed the cheelion got irritated with the thought of who would win in a fight. He couldn't help but let out a small laugh when Sera tried insulting him. It seemed like she was going to be annoying like the other lion is.
"Changing the subject pretty quick it seems," Sefu said in a joking tone, "it also seems focusing on the past and complaining is all you and the other kid are good at."
Sefu then watched as Karensha walked off into the water with the cub. Not wanting to be stuck with just the cheelion, he started to look around to see the lion dashing off to the cave. The expression on her face though didn't look like she was having fun like she was earlier. He wanted to see what she was running so he started to walk in the direction she ran from without bothering to say anything to the cheelion.
Seeing the other lion and the cheetah behind some bushes, Sefu walked over to the to see that there was a corpse in front of them.
"What's going on over here and why is there a dead cub?"

"I was joking..." He said with a sigh.
Basilisk turned around to see that Meri had finally arrived, but she had a horrified look on her face. Her ears were flat and she whimpered as she fled away.
Soon after, Sefu showed up.
"What's going on over here and why is there a dead cub?"
"Who knows?"

Sera snorted at Sefu's words, but choose not to comment. She noticed Sefu looking at the direction of the cave, and as she too turned to look she saw Meri dash inside. Then Sefu got up and headed to where Meri had come from.
The cheelion frowned and got up on her feet. She didn't say anything to either Karensha or Kabechet as she headed to the cave. She didn't particularly like babysitting anyone, but Meri had seemed to be terrified, and she was determined to find out what had happened.

Jabari had been staring at the pawprints on the ground and hadn't realised that Meri had joined them until he heard a gasp, which in turn made him swing around just catching the rear view of the lioness as she ran away.
"Meri..wait."
Sighing, the cheetah let her go, he needed to try and figure out a bit more about the cub that was lying at his feet and now Sefu had joined himself and Basilisk.
"What's going on over here and why is there a dead cub?"
Jabari slowly looked at both of them and then queried. " It's a need to know question, but do either of you know anything about this, or have seen this cub before?"

"It's a need to know question, but do either of you know anything about this, or have seen this cub before?"
"Nope. It's my first time seeing this thing. I see dead things laying around all the time, so it's nothing new for me."
Basilisk continued staring at it. He had to admit that the cub did look a lot like Maji, but he doubted that they were related.
"We could ask Maji if he has any siblings and then we'll know for sure if the two are related or not. But first, what should we do with this corpse?"

"I've never seen this cub before," answered Sefu to Jabari, "but shouldn't Karensha know about this one since she is basically the parent of the other cub now. Also one of old 'friends' might bethe cause of this."
"We could ask Maji if he has any siblings and then we'll know for sure if the two are related or not. But first, what should we do with this corpse?"
He couldn't decide exactly what to do with the corpse though, but knew he would probably have to give answer still. "I say we just leave it. Unless you want to show he others this, then I'm sure the vultures will get rid of it."

Sera sighed heavily as she entered the cave and saw she shivering Meri in the far corner. The lioness laid low, her fearful gaze locked at the cave entrance. What ever had occurred had clearly reverted her back to the state she had been in when she had first joined their rag-tag group.
The cheelion sighed again and cautiously approached the lioness. "Hey Meri", she spoke softly, trying to soothe the trembling lioness with her words. "It's me, Sera. You ok if I come over there?"
The lioness blinked her eyes, her gaze locked on Sera. Finally she gave a shaky nod, and Sera crossed the space and laid down next to her.
"I ain't gonna ask you to explain what happened", the cheelion stated. "But I'd be glad if you could answer a few questions... I don't like seeing you like this. Would that be ok?"
Meri nodded again, her gaze still glued on Sera.
"All right... Did Basilisk do something?"
Meri shook her head, and Sera sighed. She was glad that her first assumption had been wrong, but it just left her with more questions. And she had no idea what questions to ask.
Kabechet's eyes flashed open and she tentatively tasted the air again a couple of times. Her head rose up as she pointed her head towards where the wind was blowing from. How curious... The scent of death this close to the group...
She tasted other things too in the wind - Basilisk, Sefu and Jabari. And... something else, that was so faint that she couldn't really place it when she was this far from the source.
She shook her head and laid her head back down on her curled body. She could go and investigate, and tracking down the source of the unknown scent wouldn't even be difficult since it still lingered. But she couldn't be bothered to offer her assistance. The group didn't like her, and unless they specifically asked her to help, she'd just keep her nose out of it.

I am no fortune teller, Karenssha", Whether or not there will be vissitorss iss beyond me."
Karensha had already placed Maji on her back and could feel his small paws holding tight onto her fur, made her way over closer to Kabechet.
"You know Naheem is dead and buried, no one else would bother coming after me, which still makes me wonder, wonder a lot actually why you have turned up. Did my father offer you something you couldn't turn down and you're here to get rid of me, or were you with Naheem and want to finish off what he couldn't do ?"
Slowly karensha walked around the snake, her words trailing behind her.
" I will protect those here with me Kabechet, if you or anyone you have bought with you wants to retaliate with Naheems death or my leaving my fathers's rule. You know what I can do, you watched often enough from the sidelines."
Stopping herself Karensha looked around, finally noticing that they were alone and made to move away to see where they all were. Pausing she looked at the snake once more.
" You could do worse Kabechet, maybe it's time for yourself to find peace with your life instead of looking over your shoulder as well ."
Flicking her lilac fur away from her face, the leopard took a deep breath and started closing the distance between her and the cave where she thought the others maybe.

"You know Naheem is dead and buried..."
Kabechet lifted an eyebrow at Karensha when the leopard spoke. Her gaze was locked on the leopard when the cat walked around her. This was bound to be interesting, so she waited for Karensha to speak more. And when she did, Kabechet merely slowly blinked her eyes. The leopard's words didn't bother her even the slightest bit.
" You could do worse Kabechet, maybe it's time for yourself to find peace with your life instead of looking over your shoulder as well ."
"Funny that you sshould ssay that", the cobra finally said as Karensha headed towards the cave, then motioned upwind with her nose.
"I wass 'looking over my sshoulder' jusst a moment ago. The wind carriess funny sscentss, Karenssha. You might want to keep that cub of yourss closse, there iss ssomething very wrong here - a fact which you will undersstand sshould you assk Bassilissk, Jabari or Ssefu... Or even Meri if sshe iss willing to open her mouth and sspeak."
"Did something happen to you?"
When Meri shook her head again, Sera couldn't help the frustrated sigh that escaped her. Seriously, the lioness was a complete mess. She had been all happy and - Sera was certain - close to finally speaking to them just a moment ago. And the instant she had left the lioness alone, this had happened.
And she didn't even know what "this" exactly was.
Meri suddenly turned her gaze on the cave entrance, and she left out a soft gasp. Sera followed the lioness' gaze warily, only to see Karensha with Maji. She was confused by Meri's reaction - as far as she knew, the lioness wasn't supposed to be afraid of the leopard.
"Meri?" Sera asked quietly. "Meri, what's wrong?"
But the lioness merely shook her head, her gaze locked on Karensha and Maji.

Jabari stood there watching the two lions closely as they both claimed not to have seen the dead cub before or have anything to do with it's death, he had to be satisfied with what they had spoken. " I don't think there's any point asking maji about this, it will only scare him, look what it's done with Meri, sent her scrambling off at top speed.... I'm just finding for some reason that there's something totally wrong with what's happened here, I think we need to keep an eye out for anything amiss around our area for a while."
Stepping back , Jabari started kicking at loose leaves and debris that was lying around, watching as it covered up some of the remains, he knew other things would come and finish off what was left, but for now he did what he could.
Jabari suddenly registered what Sefu had spoken and his head came up looking first at Basilisk and then Sefu."
"You two were both with Karensha and whatever happened back out there, did you see anything that was amiss, or any other, what you call her 'old friends' hanging around ?"
Standing there he thought about how the three of them were here and the others were left back with Karensha, what if she had done this, had they all been taken in by her and she had a hidden agenda.
" Have we done the wrong thing, by allowing Karensha to stay ?"

"No, I only saw Naheem. The snake is the only one who I've seen after him who knows Karensha."
"Have we done the wrong thing, by allowing Karensha to stay?"
"No, I don't think so. If there are people still looking for her, then the wrong thing to have done would have been to make her leave and fend them all off by herself."
Basilisk then turned and headed back.
"I'm going back to the cave. You can decide what you want to do with that corpse."
As Basilisk entered inside, he saw that Meri and Sera were both there.
"Relaxed a bit now Meri?"

Once Jabari had covered enough of the remains to his satisfaction, he moved back and looked at Sefu thoughtfully.
"There's no one in your past that would have come looking for you, that did this to the cub trying to settle scores for any reason? I would have asked Basilisk the same question but obviously he didn't want to hang around, seems he has an interest in the white lioness for now."
While waiting the the lions reply, Jabari looked around on the ground, searching for any pawprints that looked like they might lead to somewhere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Karensha made to move past Kabechet when her words stopped her in her tracks.
"I wass 'looking over my sshoulder' jusst a moment ago. The wind carriess funny sscentss, Karenssha. You might want to keep that cub of yourss closse, there iss ssomething very wrong here - a fact which you will undersstand sshould you assk Bassilissk, Jabari or Ssefu... Turning she moved in closer to the snake and lowered her voice. " What do you mean wrong... Have you or one of them done something that's being kept from me, something I should know about ? "
Sefu watched as Jabari covered up the rest of the corpse with dirt and leaves. The dead cub looked pretty well covered and that was when Jabari turned back to Sefu.
"There's no one in your past that would have come looking for you, that did this to the cub trying to settle scores for any reason? I would have asked Basilisk the same question but obviously he didn't want to hang around, seems he has an interest in the white lioness for now."
"Others who would be after me wouldn't attack a cub," He replied back to the scarred cheetah, "And I can't think of anyone I made angry other than the two anoying kids here."
Seeing that Jabari was looking around for any clues that might be aound, Sefu looked around him a bit to make sure there weren't any paw prints by him. Not seeing any around him, he just looked back at Jabari.
"So I guess we should probably tell Karensha about this, she might know something about it."
" What do you mean wrong... Have you or one of them done something that's being kept from me, something I should know about ? "
The snake suppressed a smirk when Karensha seemed to regain her interest in what she said once again.
"All I know iss the fact that I can tasste a rotting corpsse in the wind", Kabechet replied with a lowered voice so that Maji would have trouble hearing her.
"And that rotting corpsse belongss to a lion cub. Mingled together with that sscent I can tasste your new friendss - except the half-breed. The white one obvioussly ssaw ssomething that upsset her greatly. You do not want the little one ssee what sshe ssaw, do you?"
She was silent for a moment, but not long enough to give Karensha an opportunity to speak.
"I do not claim to know what hass happened - and had I attacked a cub you know there would be no rotting corpse left. I have merely warned you that there iss something amissss, and thuss it would be wisse to assk thosse that ssaw what ever it wass that they ssaw."
"Relaxed a bit now Meri?"
Both Sera and Meri turned to look at Basilisk when he returned to the cave. However, while Sera's expression was mostly calm, Meri was looking at him with very much the same fear that they had seen the day she had joined their small group.
Sera sighed.
"You better have a good explanation", the cheelion told Basilisk. "So start telling what got her this upset."
When he entered the cave he saw that Meri's smile and her laughter was gone and replaced by a look of fear. He thought that he had made some progress with her, but it seems it had all been reversed now.
"You better have a good explanation, so start telling what got her this upset."
"Don't make a habit out of threatening your allies," Basilisk replied, "They won't appreciate it."
After a few moments of silence, Basilisk spoke again.
"Truth is, I don't have a good explanation for you. All I know is that she saw a dead cub and freaked out. I have no idea who the cub is, who it belongs to, who killed it, nothing."
He then turned his attention to Meri.
"If you're afraid that what ever killed the cub is going to get you as well, then don't worry. It's not going to get you as long as you're with us."
Sera lifted an eyebrow. A dead cub, huh? That was an interesting turn of events. But why would Meri become so upset after seeing a dead cub?
"If you're afraid that what ever killed the cub is going to get you as well, then don't worry. It's not going to get you as long as you're with us."
Sera turned to glance at Meri when Basilisk spoke. The white lioness blinked her eyes, then released a tiny whimper and shook her head.
"She's not very helpful right now, is she?" the cheelion commented with a sigh. "Any idea how to calm her down? I've been trying what I can and it just pretty much fails."
Meri shook her head and whimpered after he asked if she was worried about what ever killed the cub getting her, so he assumed that wasn't the issue.
"Do you know the cub, or have you seen it before? Maybe you know who it belongs to?"
"She's not very helpful right now, is she? Any idea how to calm her down? I've been trying what I can and it just pretty much fails."
Basilisk lay himself down in front of Meri and Sera
"You know Meri, we would be able to help you a lot more if you told us what's wrong. Just a moment ago you were running around, smiling, and laughing, and now you're terrified. We want to help you, but we can't unless we know what the problem is."
