Germany. – The packaging solutions specialist, Multivac presented its new R3 thermoforming machine . This new machine is capable of processing single-material recyclable films without wrinkles, requires little maintenance work thanks to its technical construction features and adapts to any production environment thanks to its modular structure.
The R3 thermoforming machine is not only capable of particularly efficiently processing innovative packaging materials – such as single-material recyclable film – to promote an environmentally compatible circular economy, but it can also be adapted to the most diverse customer needs thanks to its modular structure.
The approach of the new Multivac machine is predestined for the sustainable packaging industry such as the cheese industry, sausages, foods from vegetable proteins, individual pieces, containers with extra content, mini-portions.

The performance of the new R3 thermoforming machine
The R3 consists of four stations: the forming station, the placement zone, the sealing die and the cutting zone. In a first step, the forming station mallets the bottom sheet by applying heat and then thermoforms a cavity for the product using compressed air and vacuum.
After thermoforming, manual or automatic filling of the packaging cavities takes place. Once filled, the lower film is hermetically sealed with an upper film. Finally, the transverse and longitudinal cuts individually separate the partial containers coming from the packaging lane.
At the highest level of configuration, the R3 achieves a speed of twelve cycles per minute and, with it, the performance of a high-end packaging line. Our goal is to offer small, medium and large companies on a tight budget the machine configurations that best suit them,” commented Michael Landerer, Product Manager at MULTIVAC.

New unit design reduces maintenance work
The R3 is also built in such a way that it requires minimal maintenance work . And this is already recognized in the design of the new lifting unit. “The developers have reduced the number of moving parts to a minimum. Additionally, no lubricant is used at any point,” noted Landerer.
